A harsh flash-photography close-up portrait of a beautiful ***** salamander demi-human with translucent milky skin faintly patterned with peach and coral markings, enormous dark eyes, a tiny rounded nose, full lips, and a softly rounded face. Her thick black hair is cut into a blunt chin-length bob, and the skin along her temples and neck has a subtle wet sheen that catches the light.
She is standing inside a tiny SJL basement music venue, surrounded by tangled microphone cables, battered speakers, concrete walls covered in layered flyers, plastic cups, discarded earplugs, and a handwritten sign warning people not to climb onto the stage. She wears a tiny black mesh top over a bright orange camisole, loose silver-gray trousers, chunky platform shoes, and a ridiculous collection of colorful plastic bracelets. Her hands are covered in tiny rings.
The expression isn’t posed. It feels like she’s looking directly at somebody who has just said something outrageous from the other side of the room. Harsh camera flash turns the moisture on her skin into tiny bright highlights and throws the venue into deep messy shadows.
Expressive painterly brushwork, shape-based rendering, economical detail, large shadow masses, visible paint marks, objects suggested rather than fully rendered, imperfect facial structure, real person rather than model, portrait of an underground music-scene regular in Saint Jude’s Landing.
