Candid documentary photograph of a bustling Asian night market street after rain, shallow depth of field, 35mm.
Right foreground: a steaming food stall, a stack of round bamboo steamer baskets piled on a stainless steel counter, thick white steam billowing up and catching the light. A young male vendor in a white T-shirt leans in from the right edge, lifting a stack of steamers, his face half-lit. More tiers of steamers sit below, and a small yellow plastic stool and a red stool rest on the ground in front.
Left and centre: a dense crowd of pedestrians filling the narrow lane — a woman in a black slip dress walking away with a shoulder bag, shoppers in white tops and tan trousers, people with backpacks, a child in white, all reduced to soft mid-ground figures.
The street is wet black asphalt, mirror-slick, smeared with long streaks of red, magenta, cyan and amber neon reflections. Overhead, glowing red and pink Chinese neon signage is stacked on the buildings on both sides, awning canopies, bare hanging bulbs and a red fabric awning, warm tungsten glow from the stalls mixing with cooler night ambient. Background buildings and distant signage fall away into bokeh and haze.
High ISO, visible grain, mixed white balance, blown neon highlights, deep shadow detail, slight motion blur in the crowd, saturated colour, gritty photo-documentary mood.
